Brain-Computer Interface
With a Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) users can control a computer using their brain signals, without having to make any muscle movements. People with severy paralysis and communication difficulties may use a BCI to control a speech computer.
The answers to frequently asked questions regarding BCIs can be found via the link below.
Home Use
Over the last years, the UMC Utrecht has succesfully investigated the possibilities on the home use of BCIs as a communication technology. Participants could use their BCI at home, independently, to spell words on a speech computer or call their caregivers.
Research in the UMC Utrecht
Before BCIs are widely available, more knowledge is needed about brain functioning and BCI techniques. It is also important to improve BCI communication in terms of speed and accuracy. The coming years these topics will be investigated in the UMC Utrecht. Currently we are looking for participants in one of our studies. Would you like to get more information? Please reach out to us!
OUR TEAM
We are pioneers in the BCI field in
in the Netherlands and abroad
Our team consists of researchers with different backgrounds, which means we represent a various set of skills. We are also collaborating with other researchers, both within and outside of the Netherlands.
We work at the UMC Utrecht Brain Center and are part of the department of Neurology and Neurosurgery.
